okay i started to play around on my pc because like you, i also have a laptop that i work on frequently.. the alt code i gave you on your post to make the heart won't work as alt3 like on a regular desktop that has a seperate numeric keypad..
to do it, you'll actually need to use your function key to turn your keypad into a numeric pad.. on the left side of your keypad, use the blue fn key 2 keys over from the alt. (do not add the commas, just the 3 keys) alt,fn,l
press them at the same time and you'll get a heart.. ♥♥♥♥ be sure to release them at the same time too.. hope that helps you out!

just do them as above.. look for the corrosponding number in blue found on your letter keys on laptop keypad. (don't bother using number keys on top, it won't work)☻
